History of Bowers Service Company

Carl and Alice Bowers established Bowers Electronics, the parent company of Bowers Service Company in 1966 in Carthage, Missouri. 

The business was originally located at 129 Grant St. in Carthage.  In the early years the company became a dealer for Admiral, RCA, and Zenith televisions and radios.  In 1968 Bowers was granted the franchise for the full line of Whirlpool appliances.  By 1973 the business had grown to display areas on 3 floors at 129 and 133 Grant, including a large selection of furniture.

In the mid 70's a new building was constructed on Fairlawn drive in southern Carthage and the business moved to that location, taking the more accurate name of Bowers Home Furnishings.

Carl and Alice sold the Sales division of the business in March of 1979, retaining ownership of  the service department.  The service operations were formed into Bowers Service Company and operated for a year at the Fairlawn location with the new owners of the furniture business.  Bowers Service moved back to Grant St, locating in the storefront at 2nd and Grant in 1980.

Dennis Bowers, son of the owners,  who had served as technician and manager of the service operation since 1972 took over ownership in about 1982.  In 1984 Dennis purchased the present property at 128 W. Central and relocated the business there. 

Dennis' brother, Darrell joined him in 1984 as technician, and became part owner in 2000 of the business, which had been incorporated shortly after the move to the Central Avenue location.

In 2003 construction of a new facility was begun at the 128 W. Central location, just south of the original building.  The new 2580 sq ft facility was opened in October 2003 and the previous structure was demolished soon afterward to make room for new and more adequate parking.  The new facility contains a glass fronted showroom plus enlarged and better arranged office, shop and storage space.

 Since the beginning the business has been founded on serving our customers.  We continue to provide professional home appliance service, parts sales for the do-it-yourselfer, and guaranteed used appliances to Carthage and surrounding communities.
